Who we are

Dr. Balázs Győrffy - group leader

He has an MD, a PhD and a DSc degree. He studied medicine at the Semmelweis University Budapest and at the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg, Germany. He published over 100 scientific papers, submitted several patents and obtained doctoral degree in molecular genetics and bioinformatics. He worked several years at the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany and at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He is a specialist of bioinformatical evaluation of genomic data.

Dr. Otilia Menyhárt - postdoctoral research fellow

After graduating at the University of Veterinary Sciences, Budapest, she moved to the US for seven years and obtained a PhD at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA. At Cornell, she lectured biology and basic statistical methods for medical students between 2010 and 2013. She is currently teaching at the Doctoral School of the Semmelweis University and works on the molecular stratification of solid tumors

András Lánczky - informatician

Graduated at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University Faculty of Information Technology in 2012. His primary interest is the develoment of new analysis tools for survival analysis.

Ádám Nagy - PhD fellow (2015-2018)

Ádám Nagy graduated in biology at the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Natural Sciences. His primary interest lies in the analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data, he is particularly focusing on linking multiple levels of data to simulate evolution processes in solid tumors.

Péter Herman - bioinformatician

He graduated in 2014 from Budapest Technical University. His primary focus is on establishing new gene array databases and mining public databases using R and Bioconductor.

Dr.Gyöngyi Munkácsy - MTA postdoctoral research fellow

She graduated at the University of Veterinary Sciences, Budapest, and obtained a PhD in 2012 at the Semmelweis University. She currently runs the next-generation sequencing facility of the department.

János Fekete - biologist

He joined the group in 2016 and is currently PhD fellow (finishing in 2019), he primarily focuses on predictive cancer biomarkers in breast, ovarian, and colon cancer. He developed bioinformatic tools and framework for the ROCplot project.

Boglárka Weltz - molecular bionics

She is lead programmer of the RecurrenceOnline, Genotype 2 Outcome, and OffTarget projects.

Dr. Áron Bartha

PhD fellow (2018-2022), leader of the TNM project. In this, we develop a tool capable to compare gene expression across normal, cancerous, and metastatic samples using multiple independent transcriptome-level datasets.

Dr. Attila Marcell Szász postdoctoral scientist, paghologist

He graduated as a M.D. (2006) and earned his Ph.D. (2012) degree both from Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. He is board certified pathologist (2014) and his main focus of interest is sample based translational research in solid tumors.

Réka Vajda - biologist

Viktória Kiss - postdoctoral research fellow

Csenge Somodi - biologist

Lőrinc Pongor - PhD fellow (2014-2017)

Graduated in 2014 from Budapest Technical University. Main research interests include algoritm development for next generation data analysis, modelling of evolution and tumor heterogeneity.
